2007.05.26-27 Rebel Rock Hike
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007Andrea and I decided to hike into the Cascades for the Memorial Day weekend. We found a trail that had several hot springs around it (good for after the hike). The trail winds its way up the Rebel Creek drainage in the Three Sisters Wilderness in central Oregon. It’s a beautiful trail that winds up through old growth and along Rebel Creek. It’s also a pretty strenuous hike. It loops around into the next drainage and passes through alpine meadows and ridge lines as you pass through 5000′. Unfortunately, we didn’t get very good views because the clouds were sitting on top of the mountains the whole time. We did find a cool old fire lookout. It’s a relic from the past. It must have been built before VHF radios were used, since they had strung a phone cable all the way from the bottom of the mountain through the trees. There was also a helipad on top of the ridge.
