2007.04.20 Astoria

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

For our one year anniversary, I took the day off work and went to Astoria with Andrea to help clear brush on one of the CLT properties for a new fence line to keep cattle out of a tidal area.  The property is along a river that is a tributary of the Columbia so the water level fluctuates a lot with the tides.  We had to find a bunch of corner markers that had been surveyed a couple years ago, then clear the brush that was along the fence lines so that the fence crew would have a place to put the fence.  We ended up only getting about 1/2 of the job done because it took longer than we thought to locate the corner markers (one of which was under water at high tide).

After getting done, we went back to Astoria and went to the Astoria Column, a big pillar with scenes from Oregon history painted on it.  You can climb up to the top and get a great view of the mouth of the Columbia and the whole coast range.  It was a beautiful, sunny day, which made the view great.  Afterwards, we had dinner at a good seafood place on the side of the river then drove home.
