Little Pine Ride

14 of us did the ~17 mile Little Pine mountain bike ride yesterday. The route starts at the Upper Oso campground off of Paradise Road and winds its way up a fireroad for about 10 miles. Then you get an amazing single track descent for about 7 miles down. You cover about 3800 ft. of vertical gain.

Riding up, we had a couple of mechanical failures. At one point we had two bikes down and a small bike shop was opened in the middle of the road. Luckily, we only ride with all of the best mechanics in town, so everyone got their bikes patched up.

The best fix went to Simon though, who fixed his seat post with his front deraileur.

Little Pine is high enough (about 4100′) that you can see over the front range and see the ocean and the islands beyond. You can kinda see it behind Mark, Kelly and Herb. The picture didn’t turn out so great though.

This is a totally amazing ride. A long climb, but worth it for the amazing single track coming down. There are some fun creek crossings too.

What a great ride! My favorite parts were the open grassy plains, the mine cart area, and eating my oatmeal Clif Bar with Kelly at 7 miles.

Will Bob’s fix up your bike again Chad?

[...] Herb, Mark and I rode the Cameusa Connector Trail on Sunday. It’s a 2.5 mile ascent up the same fire road that goes to Little Pine. Then you cross over a saddle going towards the Santa Ynez River and drop down about 1500 feet to the road. It’s a really nice single track descent with some technical spots and some smoother, sweeping faster parts. [...]
